Turkish Coffee Reading (Tasseography)

Coffee reading — fal in Turkish culture — is the art of interpreting the patterns left by coffee grounds in the cup. After the coffee is finished, the cup is turned onto its saucer, left to cool, and the shapes inside are read like a story of past, present and future.

How it's done

Drink your Turkish coffee, leaving the grounds. Make a wish, swirl the cup, and turn it upside-down onto the saucer. Once cool, the reader interprets the shapes: the cup's right side often speaks to good fortune, the left to challenges, and the bottom to the distant future.
